Hollywood’s loved fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld died at the age of 85 on Feb. 19. The unfortunate news was released and confirmed by Fendi. Karl, best known for his flawless work as Chanel’s Creative Director had been dedicatedly working until the last day of his legendary life. Presently, we do not have detailed information about the cause of his demise.
Surprisingly, Karl skipped the Chanel Spring 2019 Haute Couture Show, Paris in January. His team stated that he missed the show because he was ‘feeling tired’. It was unlikely of Karl to miss such an important show; thus, the speculations about his poor health had been widespread since then.
Chanel has appointed Virginie to take up Karl’s work post his death.
Karl began working in the fashion industry as an assistant for Pierre Balmain. He went onto work for Jean Patou after three years where he starting designing haute couture collection. However, his collections were not received well so Karl took a break from the industry for two years.
In 1963, Karl returned as a designer for Tiziani. He worked for the brand for the next six years and he also began to freelance for Chloe during this time. By 1970, he started designing full collections for this brand while working for Fendi too.
With time, Karl achieved international recognition and fame. In 1983, he became the Creative Director of Chanel where he worked till his death.
